Warm up the gas grill or oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. It's easy to clean up if you line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
If your baking sheet isn't as big as mine, you might have to make the toast twice. Cut your baguette into pieces that are no more than ½-inch wide by cutting it across the grain.
Many times, 20 to 24 slices of bread fit on my big baking sheet. You may have extra bread. Spread a little olive oil on both sides of each slice (about 2 to 3 tablespoons' worth).
Place the slices in a single layer on your prepared baking sheet and bake on the middle rack for 6–9 minutes until crisp and golden. Sprinkle toasts lightly with salt. Serve the toasts on a platter if desired.
