FOR THE CAKE: – 1 & 1/4 cups (150g) all-purpose flour – 1/2 cup (42g) unsweetened natural cocoa powder – 1/2 teaspoon baking powder – 1/2 teaspoon salt – 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened – 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar – 3 large egg – 1 & 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract – 1/2 cup (118ml) milk – 1/2 cup (85g) dark chocolate chip FOR THE GLAZE: – 1 tablespoon unsalted butter – 1 ounce (28g) unsweetened chocolate, roughly chopped – 1/2 cup (55g) confectioners' sugar, sifted – 1 to 1 & 1/2 tablespoons boiling water – chocolate sprinkles, toasted nuts, chocolate chips, or another garnish (optional)

MAKE THE CAKE: Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 9" x 5" loaf pan. You can grease and parchment the pan. Mix flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 1

INSTRUCTIONS

Beat butter and sugar until fluffy with a medium-speed electric mixer. After adding each egg, mix well. Mix in vanilla.

Step 2

Lower mixer speed. Three portions of flour mixture and two portions of milk are added. Mix until combined or flour streaks remain. Mix in chocolate chips.

Step 3

Spread batter in prepared pan. Bake 60–65 minutes until a pick inserted into the centre comes out clean.

Step 4

Wait 10–15 minutes to cool the cake on a wire rack in the pan. After removing the cake from the pan, remove the parchment paper, and let it cool on the rack.

Step 5

Make the glaze by combining butter and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. In 30-second increments, microwave at half-power until butter and chocolate melt when stirred. Stir smooth.

Step 6

Add confectioners' sugar slowly, adding water as needed to reach the desired consistency. The glaze should be thick but pourable. Apply glaze to the cooled cake immediately. If desired, garnish.
