Chocolate Cupcakes With Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Classic chocolate cupcakes are delicious and chocolatey. Perfect for parties! 

INGREDIENT

FOR THE CUPCAKES: – 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour – 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar – 1 cup (85g) unsweetened cocoa powder – 1 teaspoon baking soda – 1/2 cup (118ml) buttermilk – 1/4 cup (59ml) vegetable oil – 1/2 cup (118ml) warm water – 1 large egg – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract FOR THE FROSTING: – 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened – 3 & 1/2 cups (385g) confectioners' sugar, sifted – 1/2 cup (42g) unsweetened cocoa powder – 1/4 cup (59ml) heavy cream – 1 & 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract – 1/4 teaspoon salt – sprinkles, for garnish

CUPCAKE MAKING: Heat the oven to 350°F. Use paper liners in a 12-cup muffin pan. Mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking soda. Set aside. 

Step 1

INSTRUCTIONS

In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, oil, water, egg, and vanilla. Slowly add wet ingredients to flour and mix until smooth. Avoid overmixing. 

Step 2

Use 2 tablespoons of batter to fill each liner halfway. Avoid overfilling cups. Bake 20 minutes or until a centre pick comes out clean. 

Step 3

Let cupcakes cool in the pan on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Remove the cupcakes from the pan and cool on a rack. 

Step 4

FOR FROSTING: Mix butter on medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. 

Step 5

On low speed, add confectioners' sugar, cocoa powder, cream, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Fill a piping bag with frosting and frost cooled cupcakes.
