The British take on a biscuit, these simple chocolate chip scones have a crumbly top and are mildly sweet and buttery.
– 2 cups all-purpose flour– ¼ cup sugar– 1 ¼ teaspoon baking powder– ¼ teaspoon baking soda– ¼ tsp salt– ½ cup unsalted butter, cold– 1 cup dark chocolate chip– ¾ cup buttermilk– 1 tsp vanilla extract

Turn the oven on to 400°F. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Cold cheese-butter. Dry portions separate easily. Ungrate cheese cubes. With a pastry cutter or two knives, mix flour and grated butter. Want crust. Mix chocolate chips.

In a small cup, mix buttermilk and vanilla. Just incorporate into flour mixture. Overmixing makes scones overly dense.

Sprinkle a little flour on a clean area and knead the dough. Form a 1 ½ inch thick dough round. Split the circular in half and cut each half into 4-5 wedges (depending on scones size).

On a parchment-lined baking sheet, place the wedges. Sprinkle sugar on top after brushing with milk.

Bake for 20 to 22 minutes, or until toothpick inserted comes out clean and tops are golden brown. On a wire rack, cool.
