Best Baked Penne with Italian Sausage Recipe

This Baked Penne with Italian Sausage is hot, cheesy, and homemade! Easy, dreamy weeknight dinner and freezer-friendly!

– 1 pound Italian sausage – 1 large onion  – 1 green bell pepper – 2 tablespoons tomato paste – 28 ounce diced tomatoe – 1 cup chicken broth  – 1 teaspoon oregano – 1 teaspoon basil  – ½ teaspoon thyme – ½ teaspoon fennel seed – ½ teaspoon salt  – ½ teaspoon pepper – 10 ounces green peas  – 12 ounces penne  – 2 cups mozzarella cheese

Follow the directions on the package to cook the pasta. After draining, move to a big basin. Turn the oven on to 350°F.

In a sizable skillet set over medium heat, crumble the sausage meat and cook, tossing frequently, until it loses its pink color, about 5 minutes.

After adding the onion and pepper, continue cooking for an additional three minutes, or until the desired consistency is reached.

There is a translucent appearance to the onion, and the pepper has become more tender.

Add the tomatoes, fennel seeds, basil, thyme, oregano, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Stir in the chicken broth.

Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer, stirring frequently, for an additional 20 minutes.

Add the peas and stir. Take the sauce off of the burner. Stir the cooked pasta and pour the sauce over it. Add roughly a cup of cheese and stir.

Pasta should be transferred to a large casserole dish. Add the remaining mozzarella cheese over top.

Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes until the cheese melts and the casserole bubbles.

If preferred, garnish with chopped parsley or basil, and serve while still warm.
